How to Mix Coving Adhesive

This video is the fifth video in a series of quick coving tips that explain how to install plaster coving & plaster cornice. Below our professional plaster coving installer, Mark Draper, explains how to mix coving adhesive to the right consistency for fixing plaster coving.

To do this properly and to follow the steps correctly, you will need:

- Small Plastering Tool

- Indian Bowel

- Bucket of Clean Water

- Coving Adhesive Powder

Step 1 (0:01-0:35):

Half fill the Indian Bowl with water, take a big handful of coving adhesive powder and start “knocking it up” (mixing it) with the Small Tool.

Step 2 (0:36-1:00):

The consistency should be similar to that of a thick porridge so we need to keep adding adhesive until we get to where we want. The mixture mustn’t be too thin otherwise it will get everywhere and fall off the cornice.

Note, mixing the adhesive is a messy job, so cover surfaces beforehand. Coving adhesive is designed specially for the job, unlike your standard and cheaper dry wall adhesive.

Step 3 (1:01-1:40:

You will start to see it come together but if it’s too dry then add more water to ensure we have the consistency we are looking for. We recommend using Coving adhesive as opposed to drywall adhesive as it’s easier to use and has a much better setting time.

Step 4 (1:41-2:20):

Once we have the right consistency, our coving adhesive is finished and can be used to fix your plaster coving
